GATE Eligibility Criteria

GATE eligibility criteria 2019 will be declaring by IIT Madras. There is absolutely no upper age limit and the individuals are eligible only after their Bachelor’s Degree achievement or the final year students i.e. there is no age and attempt restriction in GATE Exam. All of the essential Qualification will be listed out in the GATE 2019 eligibility criteria. GATE exam eligibility criteria 2019 with educational eligibility is given below.

NOTE:  While filling the application form, Candidate can select the relevant minimum required qualifying degree while filling the application form. GATE 2018 Eligibility

  • The eligibility criteria certificate has to be uploaded in the application form as applicable. It does not have to be sent through the post.
  • 2018 or earlier passed candidate has to submit the provisional certificate/degree certificate/course completion certificate / professional certificate/membership certificate issued by the society or institute. In case, final year student has to submit a certificate of Principal or a copy of marks card for section A of AMIE. Candidates have to obtain one from his/her institution beforehand and upload the same during the online submission of the application form. 
  • If the candidate is expected to complete the qualifying criteria in 2019 or later as mentioned in the table above, then he/she will have to upload their Provisional Certificate Letter (as issued by the Head of the Institute/Dean/Registrar/Head of Department) or a copy of marks card for Section A of AMIE, etc.
  • Candidates with backlogs (failed subjects) in any of the subjects in their qualifying examination will have to upload a copy of any of the mark sheet of the final year issued from the institute where he/she was studying. It has to be noted that internet downloaded mark-sheet will not be accepted under any circumstances.
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST category will have to upload a valid document proof to get a concession in the application fee. Only those certificates which are issued by authorized officials will be recognized.
  • PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category candidates will be required to upload a PwD certificate issued by a recognized authority. The benefit of a concession of application fee will be provided to those candidates who have at least 40% impairment irrespective of the kind of disability. The certificate will also have to be submitted to the allotted institute during the time of admission.

GATE 2019 Eligibility for Candidates with backlogs

Candidates with a backlog (arrears/failed subjects) in any of the papers in their qualifying degree should

  • 1. submit a copy of any one of the marks sheets of the final year,


  • 2. upload declaration from their Principal with the signature and seal beforehand during the online submission of the application form
